I know my country has not perfected itself. At times, we’ve struggled to keep the promise of liberty and equality for all of our people. We’ve made our share of mistakes, and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions. But I also know how much I love America. I know that for more than two centuries, we have strived - at great cost and great sacrifice - to form a more perfect union; to seek, with other nations, a more hopeful world. Our allegiance has never been to any particular tribe or kingdom - indeed, every language is spoken in our country; every culture has left its imprint on ours; every point of view is expressed in our public squares. What has always united us - what has always driven our people; what drew my father to America’s shores - is a set of ideals that speak to aspirations shared by all people: that we can live free from fear and free from want; that we can speak our minds and assemble with whomever we choose and worship as we please.

Check out Grant Morrison’s new website. His old website had gone so long without an update, I’d assumed that he’d forgotten about the interweb.
Not only has he not forgotten, the newly revamped website is quite nice. The archives feature a list of everything he’s ever written, photos, etc, etc. Best of all, if you register for exclusive content, you can access a special section that isn’t available to casual readers. This includes… gasp!… a blog!
While a wide range of comic book creators (most notably Warren Ellis, Internet Jesus) have been online for a long time now, Grant’s avoided traditional blogging. No more, it seems. Sign up and dig in. The beautifully worded and gushing review for THE DARK KNIGHT puts all of the clumsy fanboy blog-posts to shame. I hope he keeps up with it and continues posting his thoughts behind his work and music recommendations (Mutton Birds?) Although, we’ll see. It may not last. Few blogs do.
I’m pumped. Plus, I’m in on the ground floor. From the first entry: “Ah… you found us! Consider yourself the first of what’s sure to become a privileged band of international smug elitists!”

Listen to the MUSTN’Ts, child.
Listen to the DON’Ts.
Listen to the SHOULDN’Ts.
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON’Ts.
Listen to the NEVER HAVEs.
Then listen close to me —
Anything can happen, child.
ANYTHING can be.

The saddest part about Bush/McCain’s little golf cart is that the “no sharing” notice makes them look sad and pathetic. How protective could you be over a golf cart?

I’m still sick of hearing about Britney Spears (for 10 years now) but since I live in America and am subjected to American news media, I don’t have a choice.
Despite my apathy, I do have an observation: Britney only went nuts when she had kids. People are always talking about why she went crazy, how she went crazy, whether or not it was the paparazzi, whether or not it was Justin Timberlake leaving her, whether or not it was her marriage to Kevin Federline, etc, etc.
But if you think about it, you realize her downward spiral truly correlated with her getting pregnant and having kids. This spiraling out of control lasted way too long to be postpartum depression or anything like that… I think having kids is simply NOT conducive to mental health for some people. Now, she’s lost custody of her children (both physical and legal custody… she visits them occasionally and that’s it) and her career is miraculously back on track. She’s getting back in shape, getting more recordings underway and staying sober.
Yet, society and political correctness precludes us from noticing this. No, it could never have been the kids because children are a blessing. Frankly, the coincidences are too great. Britney Spears is just not parent material and I think that’s OK. Unfortunately, she was too irresponsible to figure this out beforehand. She should have known herself a little better before making the ultimate commitment, but is not wanting kids really so horrible?
I’m roughly her age and I’d be shaving my head and beating SUVs with umbrellas and all kinds of batshit cooky stuff if I was under the ridiculous pressure she was under.
“Where did this veneration of childbirth come from?” Hicks is right, as always.

Steve Wozniak Likes The Price Is Right - Geekologie
I’m gonna guess $2, bob.
This cracks me up and I’m not sure why. I think it’s really funny that a geek is a geek no matter how much money they have and geeks like number games. Period.
Plus, Woz is a funny-looking guy and I mean that in the nicest way possible. He may or may not be a Muppet.

I’m seeing a lot of Rollins on the dashboard. A trend I approve of.
